. Product Demo The DVD version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 for Mac and Windows is a versatile and intuitive editing and organizing program for managing a complete digital imaging workflow. Beginning with a wide range of photo editing and enhancement capabilities, Elements 13 presents a breadth of tools for automatically optimizing the look and feel of select images and retouching unwanted aspects of individual photographs. Features to help accomplish this include Effects Variations, Crop Suggestions, Guided Edits for black and white photos, and Photomerge Compose. Effects Variations provides options for each effect in the Quick Edit feature. If one effect is chosen, Elements 13 presents five variations of that effect, ranging from the subtle to the more extreme. To help ensure the best composition for an image, Crop Suggestions are offered when using the crop tool.
Adobe Photoshop Elements has long had two main modes of operation. The first is the Organizer mode (Figure 2). A surprisingly full featured image management program, Organizer is where you'll import your photos, apply keywords and ratings, and find images when you're ready to do editing work.
These suggestions can reduce clutter or empty space within an image while maximizing that picture's impact. Three dedicated Guided Edits under the Photo Effects feature provide possibilities for expressing oneself in black and white. B&W Color Pop allows for the selective addition of colors within a predominantly black and white image. B&W Selection can be used to create sections of black and white within a previously all-color image, while Black and White applies a global monochrome conversion.
In instances where the desired elements of an image are spread over multiple pictures, Photomerge Compose can be used to create the perfect shot. People or objects can be copied from one photo, pasted into another, while colors, lighting, and proportions can be adjusted to help ensure that the final product looks as though it was captured in-camera. Photoshop Elements 13 is also designed to help its users continuously improve their work. Integrated within Elements 13 is Elements Live, which provides channels for learning, inspiration, and news, along with easy access for help with the program when needed.
Elements 13's expansive set of editing capabilities is housed within a friendly environment, featuring easy-to-recognize icons and commands for a more seamless working method. Quick, Guided, and Expert modes can be selected depending on the amount of manipulation and control desired during editing, and distinct Editor and Organizer interfaces allow for intuitive handling of photos. Mobile device support helps to make files shot with a smartphone or tablet readily available within Elements and, conversely, files housed within Elements albums can be viewed and shared from linked mobile devices. A rich set of tagging controls, based on subject, location, or event, help to streamline navigating immense catalogs of imagery and support direct uploading of content to social media sites, including Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitter. Friendly and Intuitive Environment Extending the legacy of past versions of Photoshop Elements, Elements 13 revolves around a highly intuitive and efficient environment for easy navigation for selecting a host of editing tools, exporting options, and file management solutions. Large, bold icons simplify tool selection and the ability to choose from Quick, Guided, and Expert editing modes that enable the appropriate amount of control based on personal needs. Effects Variations Elements 13 offers variations for each effect when using the Quick Edit feature.
After an effect is picked, five variations of each effect are offered so that the look that best suites an image can be better tailored to the photographer's taste. Crop Suggestions When using the crop tool, Elements 13 presents four different options for applying the crop. These suggestions can result in new compositions that can maximize a picture's impact by removing unneeded elements. While any of the provided suggestions can be applied, the final crop can be manually set as well. Guided Edits for Black and White Among the Guided Edits under the Photo Effects feature are three options that allow for black and white conversion of an entire image, black and white conversion of a section of an image, as well as the colorization of individual elements within a black and white frame. Easy Compositing Combining elements from multiple images is made easy with Photomerge Compose.

People or objects can be copied from one image and dropped into another. Color, lighting, and proportions of the combined elements can be blended to help ensure a realistic-looking effect. On-Demand Help and Tutorials Elements Live is a communication tool integrated within Elements 13 that includes channels of learning, inspiration, and news. Easy access to program help is also accessible through Elements Live. Facebook Cover Photo Creation Facebook pages can be made more unique by blending profile and cover photos before they are uploaded. Seamless Image Sharing The intuitive Elements interface enables direct sharing of photos and videos within Elements albums to Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, and other social media sites, which, furthermore, can be easily viewed and shared on mobile devices. Sharing can now be done directly from the Editor interface as well as the Organizer interface.
Automated Correction Tools A broad array of one-step shortcuts can be employed to improve select elements of imagery or enhance the overall appearance of a photograph. Unwanted details can be intelligently removed using the Spot Healing Brush and Auto Smart Tone can be used to optimize color, tone, and exposure adjustments based on learned personal preferences. All-Around Workflow Solution Photoshop Elements 13 acts as an efficient means for organizing, finding, and managing files with the Organizer view in addition to serving as a solution for editing, enhancing, printing, and sharing photos. Visual tags can be utilized to selectively demarcate files based on subjects, locations, or events for easier locating of specific files within a vast image library. Additionally, location-tagged images can be viewed on a map based on where they were taken. Automatic Panoramic Creation Photomerge Panorama automatically stitches and blends individual horizontal or vertical photos as part of a larger, panoramic scene and intelligently removes jagged edges and overlapping content for a clean, seamless appearance.
Rated 3 out of 5 by prattusa from Not as useful as prior versions A PS/PSE expert I am most certainly not! That said, I actually found PSE 9 much easier to use than this one, and this v13 feels like it has been further neutered or dumbed down in terms of capabilities - perhaps to increase differentiation from the full blown PS version. I had so much difficulty with one photo - a person's arm that was on the edge of clipping highlights with flash and also had some sunburn that I ended up printing directly from Lightroom RAW as the mere act of bringing it into PSE 13 (TIFF) made the problem far worse and introduced and criticality to the nearly clipped area and the sunburn border I just couldn't get rid of in PSE 13. Rated 5 out of 5 by Safe from A good update I've used various versions of this program over the years. I use it only for editing, and I've not used the file management side of the program.
I recently updated, at a remarkably low sale price via B&H, from Elements 11. The interface seems about the same so the learning curve is easy. Program speeds seem much faster. Perhaps it is the 64 bit programing.
The software seems stable. No crashing. There is surprising power under the hood of this program, but it requires the user to spend a little time learning it.

Lots of resources out there to make that part fairly easy. All in all, I'm happy with version 13 and feel good about recommending it to others. Rated 2 out of 5 by Joe from Could not use This product is very similar to Elements 12. We purchased it because it supports 64 bit computers. Oddly, when zoomed in on an image and using the rulers, if you then use the scroll bars the rulers get corrupted and do not illustrate correctly. Because of the limited enhancements in this update and the program bug relating to using the rulers, we have uninstalled the program and reverted back to using Elements 12.
Adobe indicated that they would look at the problem and get back to us. If they do, I will update this review, but I am not confident that this will occur. It is surprising that a program of this magnitude would be delivered with a bug such as this.
We have had otherwise good experiences with Adobe. Rated 4 out of 5 by RJ B.
From Easy to use I enjoy taking photos but its not how I put bread on the table. Elements has worked well for me. I use it for two main reasons, its simple and it doesn't cost a ton. Granted, compared to the full blown versions of Photoshop, well.it doesn't compare.
I do very little to my photos once taken. If you're looking for something with a lot of editing power you'll probably be disappointed with Elements. I imagine at some point I may want the power that Photoshop provides, but not now. Previous to Elements 13, I was using Elements 9.!3 is easy to use and navigate and there are a lot of tutorials floating around out there on youtube and other sites.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ricky R. From Fantastic Product I got this on sale during the black Fiday and Cyber Monday events and I don't regret it! I am fairly new at editing photos using Adobe's products but Elements makes everything very easy.
I am still working on learning how to utilize the product to its full potential but so far I am very. There is tons of videos on YouTube and so I believe I should master the software pretty shortly. By the way, I am just an amature photographer so I don't really need a lot to organize and edit my photos. Up to this purchase I was just using my iPad to enhance my photos and then post them on Facebook and Flickr. Elements makes everything a lot easy to share and organize. Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from This version moves too far from my needs I'm a professional photographer who has used the pro photoshop version as well as elements for over 20 years.
I've only had version 13 for a few weeks but am dissapointed. As my computers and operating systems have advanced I've had to upgrade software to remain compatible with required hardware and OS upgrades. But V-13 gives me too much of what I don't want. I already have my workflow organization in place and do NOT want to reinvent my file systems and everything else. I do NOT want to post images to Facebook. I want to be able to drop an image on the Elements icon and begin work - you cannot now do that. I do not want to go back to being a beginner with no established methodologies.I bought Elements because at this point I don't need a new version of the full Photoshop, I have that on my older computers.
I just a streamlined tool to work on a new computer and take care of basic photo editing tasks. I now see hours of learning my way around all the functions I don't need just to get simple tasks done.Maybe I'll be more positive after I spend the hours to learn how to bypass the features I don't want and find my way to the functional tools.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Don from Photoshop Elements 13 I generally use Photoshop CS5 when printing my images. I purchased this program to download onto my laptop to use when teaching beginning and intermediate photgraphy classes. I found that the program has come a long way in the last few years and offers many features that are very useful in editing images. In fact I also loaded this on to my desktop and will work it in conjunction with my CS5 program.
This is a very nice program and for the price it is an excellent choice for someone that wants a program that is easy to use but still offers amazing edits. Rated 3 out of 5 by linkup from Not going very well So, I think the main problem is that I assumed that installing and using this would be as easy as it was when I started using Elements 10. It's been very problematic; I'm sure that it is a user (me) training issue, but without a training disk I've been trying to stay in production with my workload while getting this up an running. My trial and error methods of problem solving mostly result in error. So, I now am faced with buying training materials and spending-I'm sure-hours with that. Basic stuff that makes no sense to me (8 bit, 16 bit, using TIF as the default) all very different from the default settings I was used to. My advice: Make sure you have the training resources lined up before replacing an older version.
